Humphrey Park Community Centre can be hired for children's parties for children up to and including age 12, and for certain social and family gatherings. Parties are held in the Hall and must finish by 6.00pm. All party and social gathering bookings are subject to approval and are supported by our team of volunteers.
Humphrey Park Community Centre is a community facility rather than a commercial party venue. We rely on volunteers to support party bookings and ask all hirers to help us keep the Centre safe, clean and welcoming for everyone who uses it. The information on this page explains what is required of hirers and helps us ensure that proposed events are suitable for a shared community facility.
Please check our Availability Calendar before submitting an enquiry.
Please be aware that:
For safeguarding reasons, parties can only be booked when the Hall, Annexe and Committee Room are all available. This helps allow the Centre to remain under appropriate supervision during the event.
A volunteer must normally be available to be present at the Centre during the event to support the safe use of the building and help ensure the conditions of hire are followed.
If you are an associate member, a regular direct user of the Centre, or are booking on behalf of an organisation with sufficient staff to manage the event safely, please mention this in the Additional Information section of the enquiry form.
Please read these conditions before submitting a party enquiry. When you confirm a provisional booking, you are confirming that you have read, understood and agree to comply with these conditions as well as our full Terms of Hire.
Age: Parties are for children up to age 12 only. Please include the child's age on the booking enquiry form.
Alcohol: Humphrey Park Community Centre is unlicensed for alcohol, which means that alcohol must not be brought onto, consumed, or supplied at the Centre. The neighbouring bowling club is a separate organisation and may occasionally have permission to hold events where alcohol is present or visible. If this is a particular concern for your event, please let us know when making your enquiry.
Smoking, vaping and naked flames: The Centre is a wooden building. For fire safety reasons, smoking, vaping and naked flames are strictly prohibited. This includes candles and similar flames used as part of a party or celebration.
Noise: The Centre is situated within a residential community. Noise must therefore be kept to a level that does not cause unreasonable disturbance to neighbouring properties.
Children and vulnerable guests: Children and vulnerable guests must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. The Centre is a shared, multi-use community facility and is not a childcare or unsupervised children's activity venue.
Bowling green and outdoor areas: Your hire is strictly limited to the community centre building. Your event must remain within the Hall and must not extend into the outdoor areas, including the bowling green and car park. Party guests must not access the bowling green or associated areas.
Cleaning and leaving the Centre tidy: We ask all hirers to leave the Centre clean and tidy so that we can keep our hire charges as affordable as possible. Cleaning equipment is available in the tall cupboard immediately to the right as you enter the kitchen. Please ensure that:
Food and other waste is either removed from the Centre or placed in the appropriate bins.
Tables and surfaces are left clean.
Any spillages are cleaned up.
The room is left in a suitable condition for the next user.
Folding tables and chairs are returned to the locations in which you found them.
We provide essential public liability insurance of up to £5 million for social, family and non-profit events. Where this insurance is required, it is charged at an additional 10% of the standard room hire fee.
If you already have suitable public liability insurance, please provide a copy or photograph of your insurance certificate. If your existing insurance is accepted, the additional insurance charge will not be applied. Please ensure your certificate shows:
the policyholder's name;
the dates of cover; and
a level of cover of at least £5 million.
Room hire: £26.20 per hour
A £60 refundable deposit is also required.
The deposit will be returned on request provided the conditions of hire have been met and there are no costs arising from damage, additional cleaning or other breaches of the Terms of Hire or the conditions set out on this page. Within 30 days after your event, please email us to request the return of your deposit and provide the account details for the bank account into which you would like the refund paid. We are unable to retain bank account details before your event.
Maximum capacity: 100 people
The maximum capacity must be reduced by one person for each table in use.
The number of people attending must remain within the permitted capacity of the Hall at all times.
Party and social gathering bookings are subject to approval. Submitting an enquiry does not guarantee that the booking can proceed.
If we are able to accept your enquiry:
We will make a provisional booking.
We will send you a provisional booking email containing your booking details and a link to this page.
You will have 72 hours to review the information and either confirm or cancel the booking.
If you do not confirm or cancel within 72 hours of receiving the email, the provisional booking will automatically be cancelled.
Before confirming, please make sure that you are happy with the venue, the facilities available and all of the conditions described above. Once confirmed, your booking is subject to our full Terms of Hire, together with the specific conditions for parties and social gatherings set out on this page.
If you have any questions about whether your proposed party or social gathering is suitable, please contact us before confirming your booking.
